Free for Summer

I have now completely finished Uni for the Summer. I am half relieved and half lost as I really need a break before the stress of 3rd year but I also can't really sit and not do anything.

I am hoping to start to be able to post every day, with updates on my blanket which is now just over 30cms (!!) aswell as other crafty projects I happen to start.

We should be receiving a Summer project from Uni at some point which is probably going to be a general research project to start us off on our pre collection when we go back in September. In view of this I am going to try and go to as many exhibitions as I can to see if anything inspires me!

Last week I went to Quilts exhibition at the V&A and I really enjoyed it. Although it was frustrating not being able to take any pictures due to copyright issues. It has a really great mix of traditional and modern ideas and techniques. I particularly liked the work of Sara Impey. I love the use of stitch lines to create colour and texture.

Also when I was wandering around I managed to see 3 of the elephants that are part of the Elephant Parade that is on in London at the moment. They are really fun and love that that they are just dotted around! I am hoping to try and find some more this weekend :)

the end of a stressful week

This week as been long and at times stressful but also very interesting and informative.

I have been helping one of the third years finish her final collection and have been going all over London as well as doing a lot of hand-sewing and pressing.

It has been fun and I have really enjoyed it but it has also been very tiring!

I am also pretty scared for next year now as I am sure I am going to get stressed and upset!!

The things I do when I'm bored!

Well I had my presentation yesterday and it went quite well although I was ridiculously nervous! But this does mean that I am pretty much finished for the year which is scary as it means I am nearly in my final year... but also good because I really need a break.

This means though that I am going to be really bored and need to get some projects on the go to tide me over the Summer!

After browsing I found a post about the scrapghan which is a blanket made of loads of scraps. As I have a massive amount of wool that I have been collecting over the years so thought it was time to do something to use some of it up.

I picked out all the purpley and green wool from my stash and I am slowly knitting it up.

I am using really short needles so its all scrumpled up! But I really love how it is looking at the mo.

close up!

New camera!

I have an addiction to film cameras... I think I need help

I first bought an ActionSampler which has 4 lens which take the pictures slightly after each other to get a feeling of movement. I got it from ebay for £8!

I then went to a car boot sale and found a Minolta X-9 film SLR camera and quickly snapped that up for £7!

I decided I wanted to experiment with medium format photography to bought a white Holga camera but havent had chance to use this yet, I think I paid about £20

and finally.....

today arrived my Hong Meow Diana F+ camera! I can't wait to use this camera and think this weekend I am going to go an play with it!

catch up time

Well this week has been pretty slow so far but I am making good progress with my cross stitch even if I have been doing it wrong all this time!!

I also decided to make a removable note book cover for an ugly note book I bought ages ago but it has nice paper so I wanted to use it. I found some fabric I bought ages ago because I loved it but didnt know what to do with it! I found a tutorial on Pom Pom Emporium's website and set about making the cover.

It didnt take too long and now I have a note book I will be pleased to carry around with me and I can reuse the cover! yay!

Cross Stitch Woes

I have just realised that the Hug pattern i have been using for my cross stitch says to use 3 strands of thread, I have been using 2 :(

Its not the biggest deal in the world but this sums me up completely - rushing into something without really reading the instructions or thinking it through properly.

It has made me decide though that I am going to use this Hug version as a picture or hanging and I'm going to get some tapestry wool to make it into a much comfier and softer cushion.
