Review: MUA £1 Nail Polish

Hello Lovelies,

Now I am sure if you saw my nail varnish collection you would say that I didn't need anymore... and you would probably be right.

However as with all beauty/fashion/craft related things in my life it is more a case of:

'Is it a bargain?'

'Do I have room for it?'

'Will the boy notice if I buy it?'

If the answers are Yes, Yes and No then we have a purchase!

So in comes 3 ever so cute nail varnishes that I couldn't say no to as they were only £1 each!

L-R: Bright Pink, Pistachio Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt all £1 each from MUA

They are by MUA and yes they are a complete design rip off of Essie for they are just so cute. The coverage is pretty amazing too. All the below swatches were 2 coats. I also was wearing the purple shade for about 4 days before there was any sign of chipping - and that was mainly due to too much washing up (I must train the boy better!).

Bright Pink

Pistachio Ice Cream

Frozen Yogurt

There are 18 colours in the range at the moment and I think I will have to go get some more on Pay Day!

What do you think about these polishes? Have you treated yourself to any bargain beauty?

Review: L'Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution

L'Oreal 3 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water - Currently £2.48 in Superdrug

Hello Lovelies,

I don't usually do beauty product reviews as I think there are enough beauty bloggers out there already, but I do want to share products that I really love. First up in this series is the new L'Oreal 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution.

Now since I received the Etat Pur Micellar Cleansing Water in a Latest in Beauty box (review here) I haven't used anything else to remove my makeup. I have very sensitive skin, especially around my eyes, but I hate cream cleansers with a passion. The Etat Pur Micellar Cleansing Water is brilliant and removes my sometimes very eye make up with ease without irritating my eyes or the delicate skin around my eyes.

The only problem with it is that I have to order it. I am not the most organised person and I often have to run to Boots for deodorant or shampoo just as I have used the very last of my supplies. So I have been checking every week in the hope that a drugstore brand would come up with the micellar cleanser of my dreams I think I have found it!

The L'Oreal cleanser easily removes all my eye make-up without causing any discomfort. It can also be used all over the face to unclog pores, remove impurities and tone and although I am happy with my current skincare regime if I am feeling particularly lazy I can cleanse and tone my whole face in one easy step.

It is currently half price in Superdrug which makes it a complete bargain at £2.48!

Have you tried this product? What do you think?

Outfit: Coral and Tan

Hello Lovelies,

I haven't posted an outfit for a long time but I thought since the weather is so beautiful at the moment it would be the perfect time to get some shots outside.

In a couple of weeks it is the Boys Dad's Birthday and we are going out for a meal at lunchtime. I always struggle with putting together a smart casual day look so I thought I would trial it out today.

Cardigan: Monsoon | Top: Laura Ashley | Jeans: Tesco | Shoes: New Look | Bag: c/o Joules Clothing

I have always thought that I could never wear peplum tops as I have reasonable hips - but this lovely coral version nips me in at the waist and skims over.

I am a little bit in love with this tan leather clutch from Joules Clothing. It is perfect colour for daytime use and is such a simple shape it will go with pretty much everything. It also is big enough so I can carry all all my * necessities*!

I love that little hare stamp!

Pretty floral lining

What do you think of my first outfit post in forever? What would you wear to a lunch meal?

Crochet Addiction Update

Hello Lovelies!

A little while ago you may remember my post about my new crochet addiction (here) well it has well and truly taken hold now! I currently have 2 projects on the go and am thinking about starting another granny square type project too!

I actually finished the blue and mint granny square cushion cover a while ago but forgot to take any photos. Here it is in all it's glory - I still can't quite believe I made it! I took inspiration from this pattern here

Here it a sneak preview of another cushion cover that you may have seen if you follow me on instagram (@polkadotdreams). I am in love with it already but it is really slow going.

Pattern can be found here :)

What do you think of my crochet offerings?

Paul Hollywood's Chocolate and Orange Biscotti

Hello Lovelies!

Now I love baking. I have an addiction to baking books and have all manner of cake tins, moulds and cutters for making pretty much any baked good possible. However recently I just have not had the patience to make any treats. I think it is more the hassle of the washing up that puts me off - I must train the boy better...

Anywho I decided yesterday that I really wanted something crispy and crunchy to have with my Cappacino so I just had to make some Biscotti. I chose the Chocolate and Orange Biscotti by Paul Hollywood however I adapted it ever so slightly :)

Chocolate and Orange Biscotti

250g Plain Flour
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
250g Caster Sugar
3 Beaten Eggs
50g Dark Chocolate - Melted
50g Dark Chocolate - Roughly Chopped
35g Almonds - Roughly Chopped
Zest of 1 Orange

1. Preheat the oven to 160oC.
2. Combine the flour, baking powder and sugar in a bowl and gradually add the eggs to make a dough
3. Mix in the melted chocolate and then add the rest of the ingredients
4. Turn out onto a well floured surface and gently knead - I had to add quite a lot of flour at this stage as the dough was so sticky!
5. Shape into a log shape and place on a lined baking tray
6. Bake for 20-25 mins. Cool slightly and then cut into 1-2cm wide slices.
7. Place back on the baking try and bake for another 10 mins, turn over and bake for a further 10 mins until golden brown.
8. Cool on a wire rack.

Another New Addiction

Hey Lovelies,

If you follow me on Twitter you may have noticed my uncontrollable moaning about being ill. I don't handle being ill very well and usually end up moping in my pyjamas under a blanket on the sofa. This time I thought I would try and take my mind of being poorly and learn to crochet granny squares properly.

I have been crocheting pretty much as long as I have been knitting but it has never really grabbed me in the same way. I love the look of granny square blankets and cushion covers and thought that I since I was looking to update our living room scheme a bit anyway I might as well make my own!

I found a bundle of forgotten about yarn in my stash and set to work. After a couple of mistakes I finally got understood the pattern and now I can't stop making them!

I also am not sure what shape cushion to make - should it be square or rectangular?

What do you think of my first attempt at granny squares?

View from my Desk

I kill plants. I don't mean to. I try my damnedest to water them, check they have enough sunshine and pull of any dead leaves or flowers but something else always catches my eye and I forget about the. In fact the boy and I have a running joke about it. Whenever his Mum comes to visit she brings me a plant - by her next visit it is dead!

Now I love plants and flowers! They brighten a dull day and make even the most boring shelf look full of life and colour so I decided to try and find something that even I could keep alive... enter now the Succulent! When I was visiting my Dad last weekend I noticed one of his plants had a little baby and he kindly let me have it. However this just prompted a crazy need to go to a garden center and buy some more.

Please excuse they picture heavy post but they are so cute!

What do you think? :)
